Pat Cummins Hails Fourth Test Victory Over India as His Greatest
Australian captain Pat Cummins described his team's dramatic 184-run victory over India in the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) as the pinnacle of his cricketing career. The thrilling contest, marked by several twists and turns, concluded late on day five with the Australians dismantling the Indian batting order, taking seven wickets in the final session to secure a memorable win.
Cummins, who was named player of the match, played a pivotal role in the victory. His all-round performance included three crucial wickets on the final day, as India collapsed to 155 all out. Reflecting on the game, Cummins said it ranked "right at the top" among the 66 Tests he has played for Australia.
"When you take it all into account, it's probably the best Test match I've been involved in," he said. "The crowd was massive, and the match kept swinging. At no point did we feel we were comfortably ahead, which made the win even sweeter."
The MCG match drew a staggering crowd of 373,691 across five days, including nearly 75,000 on the final day, setting a record for the highest attendance at any Test match played in Australia.
Cummins credited the victory to Australia's dominant performance in the opening session of the final day. Early wickets, including the dismissals of key Indian players Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli, set the tone for the eventual win.
"I reckon that first session was close to perfection from a bowling standpoint," Cummins remarked.
Looking ahead, Australia has the chance to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a win or draw in the fifth and final Test in Sydney starting Friday. Cummins also provided an update on Mitchell Starc, who appeared to struggle with a rib issue during the second innings. Despite the visible discomfort, Cummins expressed confidence in Starc's availability for the decider, describing him as a "warrior" who pushes through pain.
Australia’s victory not only showcased their resilience but also set the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the series.
