Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Damini Ogulu, known as Burna Boy, has distanced himself from comparisons to Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, stating, “I’m not Fela, I’m BIG7.”

This declaration came as part of a series of comments Burna Boy made on Monday via Instagram, reflecting on authenticity and integrity as the year draws to a close.

In his post, the self-proclaimed "African Giant" emphasized his commitment to "positivity, peace, and prosperity," but also made a bold statement: “Honestly, I’d rather kill you than die for you.”

Burna Boy took the opportunity to address what he sees as a rising culture of dishonesty. Directly targeting certain individuals, he said, “If you ever lied about buying Sujimoto’s house in Banana Island when you only rented it, do better in 2025. If you ever lied about Elele’s house being yours, do better in 2025.”

He further added, “If you have an aftermarket ‘rainbow Daytona,’ please stop telling people it’s real. Do better in 2025.”

The artist did not hold back, calling for greater transparency in the new year. “It should be a criminal offence to tell as many lies as certain men. The list can go on and on,” he remarked.

Burna Boy also hinted at a possible interview with popular Nigerian host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, writing, “Ebuka still dey do all those interviews? I do not like interviews at all, but I go like run 1.”

Burna Boy obtained acceptance in 2012 after publishing "Like to Party", the lead single from his debut studio album L.I.F.E (2013). He has earned local acclaim from fans and critics for the lyrical content of his songs, which stand out in the Afrobeats landscape, where songs are usually optimised for danceability at the expense of penmanship. In 2017, he signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and its parent company Warner Music Group.
