McDan Aviation, a subsidiary of the McDan Group, has voiced its disappointment over the Ghana Airport Company Limited’s (GACL) decision to restrict access to its Fixed Base Operator (FBO) terminal. According to the company’s CEO, Kwaku Ampronfi, the action was both unexpected and disheartening, especially as discussions to address related concerns are ongoing. While acknowledging its financial obligations for the operation of the terminal, McDan Aviation stressed that it has made significant payments over the years, including a recent payment last week. The company further announced plans to resume payments in January 2025. However, McDan Aviation firmly denied claims that it owes GACL $3 million, describing such allegations as inaccurate and misleading.
In addition to the terminal issue, the company revealed a separate legal dispute involving a parcel of land acquired from GACL, which is currently under litigation due to a third-party claim. McDan Aviation stated that it had informed GACL about withholding payments for the land until the court resolves the matter. The company expressed regret over GACL’s decision to close the terminal, arguing that the ongoing legal case regarding the land has no connection to the terminal’s operations. “It is regrettable that GACL has chosen to take this line of action, particularly when the matters at hand are not interconnected,” said Mr. Ampronfi. The company believes the decision undermines the ongoing efforts to resolve these issues amicably.
Despite these challenges, McDan Aviation reaffirmed its commitment to engaging constructively with GACL to find a solution that benefits all parties. The company emphasized the importance of cooperation and dialogue in resolving conflicts within Ghana’s aviation sector, particularly between regulatory authorities and private operators. McDan Aviation remains optimistic about achieving an amicable resolution that will restore normalcy and ensure uninterrupted services at its terminal. This situation highlights the broader need for transparency and mutual respect in fostering partnerships that contribute to the growth and sustainability of the aviation industry in Ghana.
