West Ham Captain Jarrod Bowen Out with Foot Fracture
West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen has been ruled out for several weeks after sustaining a fractured foot during his team’s heavy 5-0 defeat to Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday.
Bowen, 28, was injured in the first half but continued playing until the second half when the pain forced him to leave the field. A club statement on Tuesday confirmed the England forward’s injury:
"West Ham United can confirm Jarrod Bowen sustained a fractured foot injury in Sunday's Premier League fixture against Liverpool. The injury to his left foot, picked up in the first half at London Stadium, will sideline the Hammers captain heading into the New Year."
Bowen, who has scored six goals this season, expressed his disappointment on Instagram:
"Unfortunately, in the first half of our game on Sunday, I suffered a fracture to a bone in my foot. As always, I tried to fight on and continue playing until I physically couldn't. Injuries happen in football, but I'm already looking forward to getting back out there as soon as possible. See you all soon."
Bowen’s absence is a significant blow for West Ham during their challenging first season under manager Julen Lopetegui.
Antonio Recovering from Car Crash
In more encouraging news, West Ham striker Michail Antonio has been discharged from the hospital after recovering from a severe car accident in early December. The 34-year-old Jamaican international required surgery on a lower limb fracture sustained in the crash, where he had to be cut out of his vehicle.
Antonio, West Ham’s all-time leading Premier League scorer, has begun a long rehabilitation process. The club expressed gratitude to emergency services, saying:
