Arteta Rallies Arsenal to Chase Premier League Title Despite Setbacks
Mikel Arteta has urged Arsenal to remain relentless in their pursuit of the Premier League title, despite facing a significant nine-point deficit to league leaders Liverpool. The Gunners' New Year's Day clash with Brentford represents a crucial opportunity to keep pace in the title race, which Liverpool currently dominate with an impressive record of 14 wins in 18 games.
Arsenal, who had high hopes of capitalizing on Manchester City’s struggles, find themselves in third place, hampered by inconsistent performances. Arteta, however, remains optimistic and has issued a rallying cry for his team to persevere and seize any opportunities to close the gap.
"We have to continue to be like a hammer, be there every day, and if someone wins all the matches, then we congratulate them and move on to the next season," Arteta said. "But if they don't, and history shows that hasn’t happened, then we will be there."
The Gunners are chasing their first league title since 2004, but their pursuit has been complicated by injuries to key players. England winger Bukayo Saka has been ruled out until at least March with a hamstring injury, sidelining him for nine Premier League matches, as well as the FA Cup clash with Manchester United and a League Cup semifinal against Newcastle.
In Saka’s absence, Leandro Trossard is expected to play a more prominent role on the left, while Gabriel Martinelli switches wings to cover for the 23-year-old. Arteta expressed confidence in Trossard’s abilities, praising his versatility and competitive nature.
"Leo has shown a lot more consistency in the last 12 months," Arteta said. "He can make an impact because he’s got that drive, that anger to prove himself, and I love that about him."
Arsenal will need Trossard and the rest of the squad to step up as they look to stay in contention during a crucial phase of the season.
