Wolves' Matheus Cunha Handed Two-Match Ban After Ipswich Incident
Wolves forward Matheus Cunha has been suspended for two matches following an altercation with Ipswich Town staff after a controversial Premier League defeat on December 14. The incident occurred at Molineux after Wolves suffered a 2-1 loss to their relegation rivals, with Ipswich’s Jack Taylor scoring a dramatic stoppage-time winner.
Tensions flared as Cunha was involved in an ugly post-match confrontation with members of Ipswich’s security team. Witnesses reported that the Brazilian elbowed one staff member before forcibly removing the man’s glasses. The Football Association (FA) charged Cunha with misconduct, and the player admitted to the charge.

Following an investigation, an independent commission imposed a two-match suspension on Cunha and fined him £80,000 ($100,000). The FA announced that the written explanation for the punishment would be released in due course.
The 25-year-old forward’s suspension means he will miss Wolves’ Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest and an FA Cup third-round tie against Bristol City. His absence is a significant setback for Wolves, as Cunha has been in exceptional form this season, scoring 10 goals in 19 league appearances.
Cunha’s suspension adds to Wolves' mounting challenges as they sit just one place and one point above the relegation zone. The defeat to Ipswich also led to the dismissal of manager Gary O’Neil, who has since been replaced by Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira.

Wolves will need to regroup quickly under Pereira’s leadership and find a way to cope without their star forward as they fight to stay above the relegation line. Cunha’s disciplinary issues have come at a critical juncture, potentially jeopardizing the team’s momentum in the battle for Premier League survival.
