As the world of football continues to evolve, women's participation in the sport has grown exponentially. However, despite the progress made, women's football careers often come to an abrupt end, leaving many wondering: what's next? For girls who have dedicated their lives to the beautiful game, exploring opportunities beyond the pitch is crucial.

Women in football face numerous challenges, from limited resources to societal expectations. Those who overcome these hurdles and succeed often retire earlier than their male counterparts, making life after football even more critical. Many female footballers come from disadvantaged backgrounds, but the integration of football into the school system is creating significant opportunities for them.

Cleopatra Nketiah, owner of Ridge City, emphasizes the importance of preparing players for life beyond football. "Not all girls can succeed as professional footballers, so we provide opportunities for them to explore other paths." Nketiah's club offers coaching and management roles to former players, helping them discover new passions and skills.

Partnerships with international clubs and universities are also providing pathways for female footballers. Nketiah's partnership with Everton FC and universities abroad has created opportunities for her players to be scouted and supported, both on and off the pitch.

Education is also a vital component in securing a sustainable future for female footballers. Jennifer Cudjoe, a former Hasaacas Ladies player, stresses the importance of education in providing mental clarity and navigating the unpredictable world of football. "Education connects you to the mental clarity needed to navigate tough times in your career."

Former Ridge City defender Suhaad Awudu echoes Cudjoe's sentiments, highlighting how combining education with sports gave her the opportunity to study Criminal Justice at Virginia State University. "Education is essential because life continues after football," she says.

Hilary Maame Adwoa Boaten, former Ghana Women's Premier League Chairperson, emphasizes the need for intentionality in supporting female footballers. "We must encourage club owners to ensure every athlete attains a certain level of education. Stakeholders need to be deliberate in helping these players balance education with their football careers."

As the football world continues to evolve, it's clear that opportunities abound for women in the sport. However, accessing and leveraging these opportunities effectively requires a deliberate approach. By prioritizing education, providing alternative career paths, and fostering partnerships with international clubs and universities, we can ensure that female footballers are equipped for life beyond the pitch.
