In another shocking turn of events, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo's personal Security Guard suddenly collapsed on the floor of Parliament today, January 3, 2025, while the President was delivering his last State of the Nation address.

The incident occurred in the presence of several high-profile dignitaries, including the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo and Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, First and Second Ladies of Ghana and many more.

As the President paused his speech, security officers swiftly responded to the situation, rushing to the guard's side to provide assistance. The guard was carried away from the scene, and another guard took position to enable the President to continue his speech. Despite the unexpected interruption, the President's address marked a significant milestone, as it was his last State of the Nation address before completing his term in office.

The ceremony, attended by the 275 members of the 8th Parliament of Ghana, the diplomatic missions in Ghana, heads of the security services, and traditional leaders, was momentarily disrupted by the incident. However, the President's composure and the swift response of the security officers ensured that the event continued without further disruption.

Ghana's State of the Nation address has a rich history, dating back to 2001 when former President John Agyekum Kufuor delivered the first address, setting the tone for future presidents to report on the country's progress ¹. This significant event is mandated by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, requiring the President to update Parliament on the nation's economic, social, and financial state.

The event highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in governance, as the President outlined his administration's achievements and challenges. As the President completes his term in office, this final State of the Nation address marked a significant milestone in Ghana's democratic journey.
