Mahama Unveils Interim National Security Team Ahead of Inauguration
Ghana's President-elect, John Mahama, has named a six-member interim national security team to oversee the country's security pending substantive appointments. The team, which is expected to begin its mandate on January 7, 2025, will be led by Prosper Douglas Bani, a former Minister for the Interior.
Other members of the team include Lt. General Peter Augustine Blay (Rtd.), a former Chief of Defence Staff; Kofi Totobi Quakyi, a former Minister for National Security; Larry Gbevlo-Lartey Esq., a former National Security Coordinator; Brigadier General Fuseini Iddrissu (Rtd.); and COP Nathaniel Kofi Boakye (Rtd.).
The appointment of the interim national security team is seen as a strategic move by Mahama to ensure a smooth transition of power and to address any potential security concerns ahead of his inauguration.
Prosper Bani, who will lead the team, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as Minister for the Interior in the past. His expertise in national security and governance will be invaluable in leading the team.
