A well-known Nigerian gospel artist Mercy Chinwo and her husband, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa have shown their love to the needy by extending a helping hand to the poor residents of the Rumudara community in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, restoring hope and comfort to families in need.
The couple, known for their passionate ministry, distributed important food items like rice, gari, tomato paste, and tubers of yam to the ageing, single mothers, and deprived families.
In addition to the food, they also provided money and fabric materials, ensuring that the beneficiaries would experience a joyful Christmas and New Year despite the ongoing economic challenges in Nigeria.
The outreach, which took place on December 30, 2024, was organized by the Mercy Is Blessed Foundation, the charitable arm of Grace and Truth Nation, a music label co-founded by the couple.
Uzochikwa explaining the initiative to the people, said “The core message of Christ is love, and He is the reason for the season. As stated in the good book of John 3:16, we know that giving is the essence of love. It says, ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.’
“Love is about giving, which is why the Mercy Is Blessed Foundation has made it our mission to share the love of Jesus Christ with those who don’t know where their next meal will come from. Our aim is not only to provide food but also to empower individuals and create sustainable ways for them to support themselves.”
Mercy Chinwo together with her husband started the MercyisBlessed Foundation, an NGO that focuses on donations to the less privileged as well as youth development in 2023.
In 2019, at the maiden edition of the Africa Gospel Awards Festival (AGAFEST 2019), Chinwo was named winner in the categories Africa Gospel New Artiste of the Year, Africa Gospel Female Artiste of the Year, and Africa Gospel Song of the Year (Excess Love).
