The inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra. To ensure a smooth and secure event, the planning committee has released key guidelines on seating, security, and traffic arrangements.
Event Layout and Security
The Black Star Square will be divided into three zones:
- Zone 1: Parliamentary Sitting Area - This area is reserved for invited guests, who must present their invitation cards to gain access.
- Zone 2: Public Stands - This area is open to the general public, with strict security and safety measures in place. Large LED screens will be installed to provide better visibility of the event.
- Zone 3: Media Area - This area is allocated for accredited journalists, equipped with necessary facilities to facilitate media coverage.
Traffic and Parking Arrangements
To ensure smooth traffic flow during the event, specific roads in Accra will be temporarily closed. Motorists are advised to follow these updates:
- Road Closures: 28th February Road, Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, Castle Road, and Starlet 91 Road will be closed.
- Diverted Routes: Traffic will be redirected to alternative routes, including Salem Avenue, Oxford Street, and Liberia Road.
- Car Parks: Designated parking areas include the back of the Independence Arch, the Forecourt of the State House, and the Access Bank Car Park.
International Participation and Media Accreditation
The event will be attended by 10 Heads of State, two Vice Presidents, one Speaker of Parliament, two former presidents, and several heads of international organizations. Over 700 applications for media accreditation have been received, and accredited journalists will be provided access to designated areas. A clean feed will be made available for all TV stations and channels, ensuring centralized TV production.
