Tema Central Election Outcome: Charles Forson Declared Winner After Court-Ordered Collation
In a dramatic turn of events, the Electoral Commission (EC) has declared Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the winner of the Tema Central election. This announcement comes after the EC collated outstanding polling station results, as directed by the High Court in Accra on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
According to the collation results, Forson polled 18,870 votes, narrowly beating his closest contender, Ebi Bright of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who secured 18,815 votes. An independent candidate garnered 209 votes, while 114 votes were rejected. The total number of votes cast in the constituency was 38,038.
The Tema Central constituency was one of four areas where the election outcome was disputed between the NPP and NDC. The NPP had challenged the initial declaration of the NDC candidate as the winner, citing inconclusive collation and incorrect declaration. The High Court upheld the NPP's argument and ordered the EC to complete the collation process with adequate security provided by the Ghana Police Service.
This development is significant, as it comes just two days before the swearing-in of newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs). The NPP has also secured favorable rulings in three other constituencies: Ablekuma North, Techhiman South, and Okaikwei Central.
