Tottenham Hotspur Bolster Goalkeeping Ranks with Signing of Antonin Kinsky
Tottenham Hotspur has announced the signing of Czech under-21 international goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague in a deal worth approximately £12.5 million. The 21-year-old goalkeeper has signed a contract until 2031, subject to international clearance and the granting of a work permit.
Kinsky's arrival at Tottenham is a timely boost for the club, which has been without first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario since he fractured his ankle in November. Vicario is expected to be sidelined until the end of February, leaving Fraser Forster as the primary goalkeeper. However, Forster missed Saturday's 2-1 loss to Newcastle due to illness, prompting Brandon Austin to deputize.
The signing of Kinsky is a strategic move by Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, who has been seeking to strengthen his goalkeeping options. Kinsky has already made 29 appearances for Slavia Prague this season, keeping 14 clean sheets and demonstrating his potential as a top-class goalkeeper.
For Kinsky, the move to Tottenham is a "dream come true." In a statement on the Slavia Prague website, he expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to join a prestigious club like Tottenham. "It was clear that such an opportunity may not come again," he said. "I decided to go for it, and then it was all down to a deal between the clubs."
Kinsky's arrival at Tottenham is expected to provide healthy competition for the goalkeeping spot, and his signing is a positive step for the club as it seeks to revitalize its season. With only two wins in their last 11 games, Tottenham is currently 12th in the Premier League table, and the addition of Kinsky may help to shore up the team's defensive vulnerabilities.
