Ancelotti Defends Vinicius Amidst Racial Abuse and Red Card Controversy
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has come out in defense of Vinicius Junior, stating that it's "difficult" to be in the Brazilian winger's shoes. Vinicius was sent off against Valencia on Friday after pushing goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski in the back of the neck, sparking a heated debate about his behavior on the pitch.
However, Ancelotti believes that Vinicius's actions were a result of the intense pressure and racial abuse he has faced in Spanish stadiums. "To bear everything that has happened, the insults, everything, it's not so simple," Ancelotti said in a post-match press conference.
Vinicius has been a frequent target of racial abuse in Spain, and his reactions to these incidents have often been criticized by fans and pundits alike. However, Ancelotti believes that Vinicius has made significant strides in improving his attitude and behavior on the pitch.
"What happens in stadiums... I think he has improved his attitude a lot, he can keep improving but nobody is perfect," Ancelotti said. "I think he's done a lot of work on that, and he has improved so much that he is the best player in the world."
Vinicius may face a ban for his red card, which will be decided next week. However, Ancelotti is hopeful that the Brazilian winger will avoid a lengthy suspension. "We're still convinced it was not worth a red card but a yellow, so we hope he is not banned," Ancelotti said.
Real Madrid will face Deportivo Minera in the Copa del Rey on Monday, and Vinicius is available for selection. The team will then travel to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup semifinal against Mallorca on Thursday.
