NPP Refutes Allegations of Parliamentary Deal with A-Plus

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed claims made by social commentator Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, suggesting that the party had approached him for a potential alliance in Parliament. In a formal response, the NPP's General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, made it clear that the party had not held any discussions with A-Plus nor had they authorized anyone to contact him on their behalf regarding such matters. This statement comes after A-Plus took to social media to allege that the NPP, under the leadership of Kennedy Agyapong, had reached out to him with an offer to form a parliamentary alliance, which included a promise not to contest the Gomoa Central seat in the 2028 election.

In his social media posts, A-Plus further revealed that the NDC had also extended an invitation for a meeting scheduled for the following day. He expressed that although he felt drawn toward the NDC, his final decision would be influenced by which party offered the most favorable terms for him and his people in the Gomoa Central constituency. A-Plus stated, “I will have to disappoint someone tomorrow,” referring to the tough decision he would face. While he acknowledged his leanings toward the NDC, he clarified that his choice would depend on which party best aligned with his interests and those of his constituents. His comments stirred significant attention as they highlighted the possible shift in political allegiance and his key role in the evolving political landscape.

The NPP, however, has swiftly refuted A-Plus’s allegations, emphasizing that no such meetings or offers have taken place. Frimpong further stated that A-Plus’s contemplation about his political future was futile, as the NPP had not pursued any engagement with him. The party stressed that while A-Plus was entitled to make his own political decisions, these decisions would not be influenced by any overtures from the NPP, as no official communication had been made. This denial comes amid ongoing discussions about the shifting dynamics within Ghana’s political scene, particularly as the 2028 general elections approach. With A-Plus’s public statements casting doubt on political alliances and party strategies, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact voter sentiment and political positioning in the run-up to the next election cycle.
