The High Court has granted the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) application for a writ of mandamus, requiring the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete and announce the results for several disputed parliamentary constituencies. These constituencies include Tema Central, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South, where the election outcomes were still unclear. Specifically, the court ordered the EC to finalize the results of two outstanding polling stations in Tema Central and to declare the winner by January 6, 2025. Additionally, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) was instructed to ensure that security measures were in place, with armed personnel assigned to oversee the collation and declaration process. This decision comes as part of the ongoing effort to resolve the disputes surrounding the election results in these constituencies and ensure a smooth, transparent process.

The ruling has been welcomed by the NPP, who view it as a significant win for electoral integrity. The party has expressed satisfaction with the court's emphasis on the need for fairness and transparency in the election process, which has been a central issue in the recent disputes. In the past few weeks, there have been challenges and tensions regarding the finalization of the results for these constituencies. The NPP had sought legal intervention to compel the EC to complete the collation process, as several polling stations had not been included in the initial tally. The court’s decision has now set clear expectations for the EC, mandating that it finalize the results within a specific timeline. The ruling is seen as an important step toward ensuring that the election results are determined in a fair and just manner, providing clarity and closure to the ongoing disputes.

The expected finalization of these results is a critical development for Ghana’s political landscape, as the outcome of these elections will have significant implications for the balance of power in the country’s parliament. The court's ruling underscores the importance of adhering to legal processes and guarantees that the results of these key constituencies will be declared with integrity. The NPP’s victory in securing the court's intervention is a crucial moment for the party, as it seeks to consolidate its position in the parliament. However, opposition parties are likely to continue scrutinizing the process, ensuring that the EC's final actions comply with the court's directive. As the final declaration draws closer, all eyes will be on the EC to fulfill its obligations under the court’s order, ensuring that the political stability of the country is maintained and that the newly elected Members of Parliament can take their seats without further delay.
