A heated controversy is brewing in Ghana's politics, pitting two Members of Parliament against each other.

Hon Okudzeto Ablakwa, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has instructed his lawyers to take legal action against Hon Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo Constituency and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The bone of contention is Assafuah's alleged circulation of fake news about Ablakwa's involvement with a Chinese ethanol production company.

Ablakwa has vehemently denied these allegations, labeling them as "glaikit and criminal conduct" and "loony attempts at character assassination" by the NPP. He explained that the photos being circulated were actually taken in 2022 when he facilitated employment arrangements for North Tongu NaBCo personnel who had lost their jobs due to the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government's termination of the program.

Ablakwa emphasized that the Sinostone Chinese investors in his constituency are not connected to the Kantamanto incident, contrary to Assafuah's claims. He also reiterated that the NDC does not receive funding from Chinese financiers, as this is prohibited by Ghana's electoral laws.

Assafuah, on the other hand, has been a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics, serving as the MP for Old Tafo since 2021. He has a strong background in public relations and politics, having worked as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ministry of Education and as a special assistant to the Second Lady, Samiira Bawumia.

As the controversy unfolds, Ablakwa has warned the NPP to desist from their "criminal fake news factory" and "loony attempts at character assassination." The NDC lawmaker is confident that the truth will prevail, and he is ready to take on the NPP in court.

The question on everyone's mind is: will Hon Vincent Assafuah retract his statements, or will Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa's lawyers take him to court? Only time will tell.
