Kwesi Appiah: Asante Kotoko's Exceptional Incentives Make Player Exodus Unlikely
Asante Kotoko's Sporting Affairs Manager, Kwesi Appiah, has expressed surprise at the notion that any current player would consider leaving the club. This sentiment comes amidst the Ghana Premier League's persistent struggle with player exodus, which often sees top performers depart after standout seasons.
Appiah's comments were prompted by the recent departure of Richmond Lamptey, who left Kotoko to join Rwandan side APR FC on a free transfer. However, Appiah remains optimistic that Kotoko's exceptional incentives and treatment of players will deter them from seeking opportunities elsewhere.
In an interview with Akoma FM, Appiah highlighted the unique benefits enjoyed by Kotoko players. "I believe that Kotoko players are currently receiving excellent care," he stated. "As everyone is aware, Otumfuo provides them with free housing, and they don't pay for utilities. They only contribute a small portion of their earnings towards food."
Appiah also emphasized the team's prompt payment of salaries and bonuses. "This is a squad that occasionally receives salary payments on the 25th or 26th of each month. The following day, they receive bonuses for winning a game." These incentives, Appiah believes, set Kotoko apart from other teams in the league.
"I don't think any team can match the incentives Kotoko offers their players," Appiah asserted. "We're doing our best with the King's assistance." Given these favorable conditions, Appiah expressed his astonishment at the idea of any player considering a departure. "Unless there are additional reasons, I would be shocked if a player currently playing for Kotoko thought of leaving."
Asante Kotoko's commitment to providing exceptional care and incentives to its players may prove to be a crucial factor in retaining top talent. With Appiah at the helm, the team is well-positioned to build a strong squad and make a lasting impact in the Ghana Premier League.
