The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeria's senior men's national football team. The appointment was endorsed by the NFF Executive Committee on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, following a recommendation by the Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

Chelle, a former Mali international, brings a wealth of coaching experience to the role. He has previously coached clubs such as GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran, and has been the Head Coach of the Mali national team since 2022.

During his tenure as Mali coach, Chelle led the team to a impressive performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cote d'Ivoire, where they narrowly lost to the hosts in the quarter-finals. As a player, Chelle had a distinguished career in France, featuring for clubs such as Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais. His playing experience and coaching expertise will undoubtedly be valuable assets to the Super Eagles.

Chelle's appointment is with immediate effect, and he will be responsible for guiding the Super Eagles through the remaining qualifying matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team's next matches are scheduled for March, and Chelle will be expected to hit the ground running and lead the team to victory.
