COULD ELON MUSK BUY LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB?

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur behind Tesla and SpaceX, has expressed interest in purchasing the English football club Liverpool, according to his father, Errol Musk. However, the club's current owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), have denied any truth to these rumors.

FSG, which has owned Liverpool since 2010, has previously stated its openness to external investment while maintaining a long-term commitment to the club. Speaking to Times Radio, Errol Musk confirmed his son’s interest in the six-time European Cup champions but downplayed its immediate significance. “Oh yes, but that doesn’t mean he’s buying it,” Errol Musk remarked. “He would like to, yes, obviously, anybody would want to. So would I.” He added humorously, “I can’t comment on that. They’ll raise the price.”

When approached by The Associated Press, an FSG spokesperson dismissed the claims, stating, “No truth to these rumors.” In September 2023, FSG sold a minority stake to the U.S. investment firm Dynasty Equity. At the time, FSG president Mike Gordon emphasized the group’s dedication to Liverpool’s future, saying, “Our long-term commitment to Liverpool remains as strong as ever. If there is an investment partner that is right for Liverpool, we would pursue the opportunity to ensure the club’s financial resiliency and future growth.”

Under FSG's ownership, Liverpool has flourished, ending a 30-year wait for an English league title in 2020, just a year after securing the Champions League trophy. The club continues to perform strongly, leading both the Premier League and Champions League in the current season.

Errol Musk also revealed personal connections to Liverpool, noting family ties to the city and shared anecdotes about his family’s acquaintances with members of The Beatles during their early years.

Elon Musk has been increasingly involved in British affairs since the center-left Labor Party took power in July. Using his social platform, X, Musk has criticized the government and called for a new election. His comments have drawn sharp responses, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemning the “lies and misinformation” he says are undermining British democracy.

While Elon Musk’s interest in Liverpool has stirred public curiosity, it remains unclear whether his admiration for the iconic football club will translate into a formal bid. For now, Liverpool fans and football enthusiasts alike are left speculating on the billionaire’s next move.
