Ilara-Mokin, a town in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, has successfully planted 800 trees as part of its ongoing community-wide green initiative aimed at environmental sustainability and beautification.

The announcement came during the second phase of the tree-planting campaign, which follows an initial phase launched at the town’s palace. According to a statement released by the organizers, the second round of planting took place on April 30 and May 1, 2025, and involved extensive tree coverage across key locations within the town.

On the first day, the planting exercise began at the first entrance into Ilara-Mokin, near a petrol station. Trees were planted on both sides of the road stretching into the town center and up to the post office. Planting then extended along the street adjacent to the post office.

Key public spaces such as the palace grounds, Wuraola Health Centre, the general hospital, and Mega Primary School also benefited from the exercise. At Mega Primary School, a mini woodlot consisting of over 50 Tectona grandis (teak) seedlings was established.

The following day, planting resumed along Palace Street and proceeded to the Elizade Guest House, before moving to the second major entrance into the town near the general hospital. Both sides of the road leading from the hospital to the town center were lined with trees.

The initiative further expanded to streets around Wuraola Health Centre, St. Andrew’s Primary School, and extended as far as the residence of Baba Elizade. Trees were also planted in front of Major General Omojokun’s house and other private residences along Elizade University Road.

In addition, the car park of UBA and the surrounding areas were planted with shade-providing tree species, while both the interior and front of St. Andrew’s Primary School were planted with Tectona grandis, intended to act as a natural windbreak.

Despite its success, the initiative faced logistical challenges, particularly in sourcing a sufficient number of seedlings for the exercise. Nonetheless, the community remains committed to continuing its environmental restoration efforts.
