Luka Modric has been denied the chance to break Sergio Ramos' record for most appearances for Real Madrid in the Champions League. The Croatian midfielder, who has been a key player for Los Blancos for over a decade, was hoping to surpass Ramos' record of 129 appearances in the competition.

However, Modric's chances of breaking the record were dealt a blow when he was left out of Real Madrid's squad for their Champions League group stage match against Celtic. The 37-year-old midfielder has been struggling with a minor injury, and coach Carlo Ancelotti decided not to risk him for the match.

Modric's absence from the squad means that he will have to wait until the next Champions League match to try and break Ramos' record. The Croatian midfielder is currently on 128 appearances in the competition, just one shy of Ramos' record.

Modric has been an integral part of Real Madrid's success in the Champions League, winning four titles with the club. He has also been named the UEFA Best Midfielder on three occasions and has won numerous other individual and team honors.
