Ghana's President, John Mahama, has reaffirmed his commitment to promoting accountability, integrity, and transparency in governance. In his latest address, he pledged to prioritize the passage of a code of conduct for public officeholders, ensuring they adhere to the highest standards of ethical behavior.

This move aims to eliminate corruption and unacceptable behavior among public officials, aligning with Chapter 24 of Ghana's 1992 Constitution. The code of conduct will outline values, principles, and standards for acceptable behavior, prohibiting conflicts of interest, illicit enrichment, and other improper conduct.

Despite previous assurances from the Nana Akufo-Addo administration, the bill was not passed into law. However, President Mahama's government is determined to make it a reality. Once enacted, the law will not only deter corrupt practices but also prevent public officers from misusing state property for personal gain.

For instance, public vehicles will no longer be used for private activities outside working hours. President Mahama emphasized his commitment to investing in the fight against corruption and strengthening Ghana's justice system.

"We shall carry out a comprehensive audit to establish the status of our state-owned enterprises," he stated. Additionally, he reiterated his pledge to operationalize Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL), investigating individuals suspected of misappropriating public property and pursuing them to recover stolen assets.

President Mahama's address was part of the 92nd annual National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Winneba. His administration's focus on promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability is expected to bring about significant reforms in Ghana's public sector.

Some of the key policies outlined in President Mahama's manifesto include:

- Reducing Government Size: Drastically reducing the size of government by appointing not more than sixty ministers.

- Launching Operation Recover All Loots: Investigating, prosecuting, and recovering proceeds of corruption.

- Prohibiting State Asset Purchases: Initiating legislation to prohibit political appointees and public officials from purchasing state assets.

- Conducting Forensic Audits: Conducting forensic audits and inquiries into scandals, including the $58 million National Cathedral scandal.

These policies demonstrate President Mahama's commitment to restoring good governance and fighting corruption in Ghana.
