Lagos Teacher Arrested for Assaulting 3-Year-Old Pupil
A shocking case of child abuse in Lagos has led to the arraignment of Stella Nwadigbo, a 45-year-old woman accused of assaulting a three-year-old pupil in Ikorodu. The incident, captured in a viral video that sparked outrage across social media, has drawn attention to the growing concern over child safety in schools and homes.
The Lagos State Police Command acted swiftly after the footage surfaced online, arresting Nwadigbo on January 8. Officers from the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Ikorodu Police Division handled the initial arrest before transferring her to the Gender Unit at the Command Headquarters for further investigation.
The victim, a young pupil whose injuries from the incident required immediate medical attention, is reportedly receiving care at a nearby health facility. Authorities have assured the public that the child’s well-being remains a priority as the legal proceedings unfold.
During her court appearance at Magistrate Court 1 in Ogba, Nwadigbo faced charges of indecent treatment and assault of a minor. The presiding magistrate ordered her remand at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility, with the case adjourned until February 18, 2025, for the continuation of the hearing.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, commended residents for their vigilance in reporting the incident, highlighting the importance of community involvement in safeguarding children. “The Lagos State Command remains steadfast in ensuring the safety and security of all residents, especially our vulnerable children,” he stated.
Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance policy toward child abuse, emphasizing that justice will be served. "Every child deserves protection and care, and we will continue to pursue offenders to the full extent of the law," he said.
This case serves as a wake-up call for parents, guardians, and institutions to remain vigilant in protecting children from harm. It also underscores the critical role of the public in holding perpetrators accountable.
As the case develops, it highlights the urgent need for stronger measures to prevent child abuse and foster a culture of accountability.
