Amadu Hamza Zanga: A Reflection on Misguided Leadership in Bawku

Amadu Hamza Zanga, I hope this message reaches you with the warmth of sincerity, despite the gravity of the issues at hand. It is disheartening to see how you, during your tenure as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Bawku, allowed yourself to be misled by the Mamprusis in the region. The consequences of your actions have left an indelible mark on the people of Bawku, particularly the Kusasi community.

During Hajia Hawa Ninchema's tenure as MCE, the Mamprusis respected her leadership and refrained from tarnishing her image. They viewed her as one of their own, which contributed to the relative peace in Bawku between 2016 and 2020. However, your tenure tells a different story—one marred by conflict, mistrust, and loss.

The Mamprusis saw you as their last hope to advance their agenda, exploiting your history as a field warrior in the Siliminaba and Azanga areas during the 2007-2008 conflicts. Instead of promoting unity and development, you allowed yourself to be a pawn in their divisive schemes, leading to a period of turmoil that has cost countless lives.

The Legacy of Conflict

Reflect on your time as MCE, Amadu Hamza. Consider the lives lost under your watch. Compare your tenure to those of previous MCEs, and you will realize the harm caused by your biased leadership. The destruction and despair during your reign far outweigh any achievements. Your actions have not only harmed the Kusasis but have also backfired on the Mamprusis. The death of Taiban, a prominent figure, is a glaring example of the havoc wreaked during your tenure.

Reports suggest that you, in collaboration with Fatawu Nambe and Shaka, orchestrated a plan to eliminate Taiban. This scheme was allegedly aimed at securing the loyalty of the Mamprusis to fight against the Kusasis. However, the outcome was disastrous, leaving the Mamprusis betrayed and the Kusasis further alienated. The death of Taiban and the resulting tensions underscore the devastating impact of your actions.

A Tarnished Record

Your tenure as MCE is also marked by your infringement on the rights of local media stations in Kusaug. Such actions stifled freedom of expression and deepened the divide between communities. Instead of fostering dialogue and understanding, you suppressed voices that sought to hold leaders accountable.

A Call for Reflection

Amadu Hamza, it is time to reflect on your leadership. Assess the damage caused by your decisions and ask yourself whether you deserve another chance to lead Bawku. Leadership requires fairness, vision, and a commitment to the well-being of all people, regardless of ethnicity or political affiliation. Unfortunately, your tenure has failed to meet these standards.

To my Mamprusi brothers, it is crucial to recognize the role Amadu Hamza played in your losses. His misguided actions, driven by self-interest and manipulation, have caused irreparable harm to both communities. Let this serve as a lesson to choose leaders who prioritize peace and unity over division and conflict.

The time has come for Bawku to heal. It starts with acknowledging the mistakes of the past and committing to a future of collaboration and mutual respect. May this message inspire introspection and a renewed commitment to peace in our beloved region.
