The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has unveiled a historic 75% increase in prize money for the winners of the 2024 Total Energies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The champions will now receive $3.5 million, a significant leap from previous editions, as part of a broader effort to enhance the tournament's appeal and support African football development.
CAF has also raised the overall prize pool for the tournament by 32%, bringing the total to $10.4 million. CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe emphasized the competition's role in showcasing and nurturing Africa-based football talent.
"The CHAN is an important competition for the development and growth of Africa-based football players and talented young players. It will contribute significantly to the global competitiveness of African football and CAF competitions," said Dr. Motsepe.
Dr. Motsepe outlined the tournament’s strategic importance in attracting fans, sponsors, and global stakeholders while providing a platform for young African players to shine. He noted the event as a cornerstone of CAF’s commitment to investing in the future of African football.
The 2024 CHAN will run from 1 February to 28 February 2025, with matches taking place across the three host nations.
