Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Chairman of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team, revealed that the team has gathered significant evidence regarding suspected looted state assets by appointees of the previous administration. Ablakwa confirmed that the collected evidence will soon be submitted to President John Dramani Mahama for further action.
In a statement at a thanksgiving service in Akosombo for Thomas Ampem Nyarko, the MP for Asuogyaman, Ablakwa stressed that ORAL’s work is not a short-term initiative, but a sustained effort aimed at recovering misappropriated state funds and assets. He emphasized that the team has gathered substantial evidence of state capture and looting, which will be presented to President Mahama for appropriate instructions to be given to the Attorney-General.
The North Tongu MP underscored the importance of prosecutions in ensuring accountability, stating that the cases might require the involvement of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). Ablakwa emphasized the team’s commitment to facilitating successful prosecutions and ensuring that those responsible face legal consequences as a deterrent to future misconduct by public officials.
Ablakwa also referenced past investigations, including those conducted by former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo, which would be valuable in the ongoing efforts.
The operation's ongoing work is seen as critical in the recovery of state assets, and Ablakwa expressed confidence in the progress made so far. The team, which was appointed during the transition period, includes notable figures such as retired Commissioner of Police Nathan Kofi Boakye, lawyer Martin Kpebu, investigative journalist Raymond Archer, and former Auditor-General Domelevo. The team is tasked with compiling evidence of state capture, asset looting, and misappropriation, with the aim of holding perpetrators accountable.
At the thanksgiving service, Asuogyaman MP Thomas Ampem Nyarko thanked the leadership, party members, and the community for his successful retention of the seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He called for unity and cooperation across political lines to foster development in the region. Nyarko assured the people of Asuogyaman that under President Mahama’s leadership, the NDC would work towards resolving their challenges and ensuring infrastructure development, including the repair of key roads in the area.
Nyarko emphasized the need for support from the public to help the NDC fulfill its mandate and promised that the party would not disappoint the people of Ghana.
