Drama Looms As Group Rejects Outcome Of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo President General Election

The Igbo Mandate Congress (IMC) has rejected the outcome of the Ohaneze Ndigbo President General election held in Enugu. The group accused Southeast governors of manipulating the process, leading to the emergence of Senator John Azuta Mbata as the new leader of the pan-Igbo socio-cultural organization.

According to the IMC, the Southeast governors conspired to keep the venue of the election secret, and had warned prior that the governors were planning to install a Senator from Rivers State. The group's Director-General, Rev Obinna Akukwe, alleged that the governors influenced the delegate lists, ensuring their loyalists emerged as potential voters during the election.

The IMC claimed that some delegates were paid millions of naira to vote for the governors' preferred candidate. The group also alleged that the governors made frantic efforts to force Mike Okiro to step down for Senator Mbata, but he initially refused. After granting a press conference announcing his withdrawal, Okiro appeared at the Ohanaeze Secretariat, got screened, and asked his supporters to await a court judgment.

The IMC called on all Igbo stakeholders to rise to the occasion and ensure that politicians, mostly governors, remove their hands from Ohanaeze affairs. The group maintained that the organization is crucial to the overall interest and development of the Igbo race and should be devoid of politics.

The IMC's rejection of the election outcome has sparked widespread controversy, with many Igbo leaders and stakeholders expressing concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. The group's allegations of manipulation and bribery have also raised questions about the role of Southeast governors in the election.

In a related development, two factional groups of the Igbo socio-cultural organization announced different candidates as successors to the outgoing president general, Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu. The groups declared Dim Uche Nnam Okwukwu and Chief Jackson Omenazu as the new president general of the Igbo socio-cultural group. The conflicting announcements have added to the drama surrounding the Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo President General election.

The crisis rocking the Ohanaeze Ndigbo has sparked fears about the future of the organization and its ability to promote the interests of the Igbo people. Many have called for calm and urged the various factions to engage in dialogue to resolve their differences. However, the situation remains volatile, and it is unclear how the crisis will be resolved.
