COP Kofi Boakye Says Dampare Shouldn't Continue As IGP-Paul Adom Otchere Claims

Commissioner of Police (COP) Nathaniel Kofi Boakye has reportedly expressed his opposition to George Akuffo Dampare continuing as the Inspector General of Police (IGP). This information was revealed by Paul Adom Otchere, the host of (Good Evening Ghana).

George Akuffo Dampare was first appointed as Acting IGP by President Nana Akufo-Addo on July 21, 2021, officially assuming the role on August 1, 2021, following the tenure of James Oppong-Boanuh. On October 8, 2021, Dampare was sworn in as the substantive IGP, marking a significant step in his career.

Under Dampare’s leadership, the Ghana Police Service has undergone transformative changes, earning widespread praise from the public. He has been commended for enhancing professionalism and efficiency within the service, leading to its recognition as one of Ghana’s best-managed state institutions.

Dampare’s efforts were particularly evident during the 2024 general elections, where his leadership was instrumental in maintaining peace and stability during a tense political period. His work has sparked calls from many Ghanaians urging President John Dramani Mahama to retain him in office to continue his commendable contributions. However, some factions have called for his replacement.

In a post shared on the verified (Good Evening Ghana) Facebook page, Paul Adom Otchere suggested that COP Kofi Boakye holds significant influence in determining Dampare’s future as IGP. According to Adom Otchere, COP Boakye has reportedly taken a stance against Dampare’s continuation in the role.

"COP Kofi Boakye may have the final say for Dampare to continue as IGP, we hear his answer is a NO!! But why... join us for the gist tonight!" the post read.

The post has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the reasons behind COP Boakye’s opposition to Dampare’s tenure. While some see this as an internal power struggle within the police service, others view it as a normal part of leadership transitions in public institutions.

As discussions about Dampare’s future continue, the public remains keenly interested in how President Mahama and other key stakeholders will handle the situation. For now, the spotlight remains on COP Kofi Boakye and his reasons for reportedly opposing Dampare’s continuation as IGP.
