Dr. Emmanuel Adu-Sarkodee, Chairman of CDH Financial Holdings, urged the government to keep investing in technical and vocational training to ensure that the educational framework meets the demands of future industries.

During his speech at the launch of the 76th Annual New Year School and Conference held at the University of Ghana; he highlighted the crucial role of STEM education in fostering sustainable progress.

He also pointed out that higher education courses should focus on practical abilities, innovation, and analytical thinking to equip the workforce for upcoming challenges.

The theme of the conference is “Achieving the Five Ps of Sustainable Development for a Resilient Ghana: (People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, Partnership).”

“Considerable focus should be placed on motivating students to engage in innovative projects, alongside attaining top academic honors. Teaching fundamental skills such as constructing circuits or simple gadgets can enhance self-confidence and prepare students for the Industrial Revolution…” he remarked. “Clubs focused on computers and robotics should be integrated into the core curriculum rather than being merely extracurricular at basic and secondary educational levels.”

As the President of the Ghana Employers Association (GEA), Dr. Adu-Sarkodee stressed that for Ghana to experience economic advancement, it must reduce its dependency on extractive sectors.

He suggested the use of “assertive implementation tactics and cohesive policies” aimed at transforming individuals and fostering inclusivity to promote swift development.

Dr. Adu-Sarkodee drew attention to the worsening state of the Odaw River and Korle Lagoon in Accra, highlighting the urgency for rigorous enforcement of environmental regulations and a change in collective attitudes toward ecological matters.

He called for a collective commitment to preserve the environment for future generations and emphasized the significance of integrity and patriotism, asserting that without these principles, national objectives would remain unmet.

Dr. Adu-Sarkodee expressed worries regarding the insufficient involvement of women in leadership and management positions in Ghana but lauded the election of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the first female Vice President, viewing it as a motivation for women seeking elevated leadership roles.

He conveyed optimism for Ghana’s future, in spite of existing hardships, and highlighted the necessity for collaboration and the exchange of ideas to promote sustainable growth.

The ANYSC serves as a venue for tackling pressing national challenges, mobilizing citizens for advancement, and functions as a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of the University of Ghana.

Significant sub-themes for panel discussion include “Empowering Future Generations: Utilizing Technology for Sustainable Growth,” “Safeguarding Natural and Constructed Environments for Sustainable Progress,” and “Utilizing Financial Technologies for Prosperity and Navigating Regulatory Issues.”
