Kofi Adoma's Shooting: Kumchacha Criticizes Vim Lady's Reporting, Reveals Disturbing Details
On January 15, 2025, renowned Ghanaian journalist Kofi Adoma Nwanwani suffered a severe eye injury during a traditional event in Dormaa, Bono Region. The incident occurred when gunpowder from a ceremonial musketry firing struck his face, leading to significant damage to one eye and blurriness in the other. Following initial treatment in Ghana, Kofi Adoma was transferred to Dubai for specialized medical care.
In the wake of the incident, fellow journalist Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, took to social media to express her concern and request prayers for Kofi Adoma's recovery. She wrote, "Yesu, Kofi, I’m praying for your full recovery and healing. I have been panicking since hearing the news that you were shot in the eye. May the Lord work overtime on you."
However, Prophet Nicholas Osei, also known as Kumchacha, founder and leader of Heaven’s Gate Ministry, criticized Vim Lady's public approach to the situation. He argued that such reporting could incite unnecessary panic among the public. Kumchacha emphasized the importance of responsible journalism, especially during sensitive times, and urged media professionals to verify facts before disseminating information.
Kumchacha also shared his perspective on self-defense, referencing a previous attack on Kofi Adoma in August 2022, where unknown assailants attempted to set the journalist ablaze. He stated that, in such life-threatening situations, individuals should take necessary actions to protect themselves, even if it means causing harm to the attackers. He said, "If it was me the riders crossed, I would have used my car to kill them. Kofi should have done the same.
As Kofi Adoma continues to receive medical care in Dubai, his wife, Miracle Adoma, provided an update on his condition. She mentioned that he is stable and responding to treatment, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers from the public. She urged everyone to continue praying for his full recovery during this challenging time.
This incident has sparked discussions about the safety of journalists in Ghana and the responsibilities of media professionals in reporting sensitive events. It underscores the need for accurate reporting and the protection of journalists who often face risks in their line of duty.
