Eastern Region Achieves Unprecedented Road Development Milestone
In a significant stride towards enhancing infrastructure, the Eastern Region has witnessed the construction of over 185 kilometers of roads since 2017.This remarkable achievement was highlighted by the Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, during a recent town hall meeting in Koforidua.
Minister Acheampong emphasized that this development surpasses the total road construction undertaken by the previous administration, marking a new era in the region's infrastructural growth.He stated, "The Akufo-Addo government has delivered on its promise of infrastructural development. Since 2017, we have completed over 185 kilometers of road construction in the Eastern Region, which surpasses the total road development done under the NDC administration."
The minister outlined several key projects contributing to this milestone, including:
- Rehabilitation of the Nkawkaw-Noyem-New Abirem roads.
Reconstruction of the Koforidua-Asesewa-Abourso roads.
Partial reconstruction of the Koforidua-Bonsu road.
These projects have significantly improved access and connectivity within the region, reducing travel time and facilitating trade and commerce. Communities that were once isolated now experience a boost in economic activities, thanks to improved transportation networks.
Further bolstering the region's infrastructure, the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) was launched, providing essential equipment such as motor graders, bulldozers, backhoes, and tipper trucks to local assemblies.This initiative empowers districts to maintain and enhance their road networks effectively. Minister Acheampong remarked, "Our roads are the lifeblood of our communities, and the government has given them a significant boost. initiative is a collaborative effort involving key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Roads, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, the Common Fund Secretariat, the Ghana Armed Forces, and J.A. Plant Pool Ghana Limited. This partnership not only aims to improve road networks but also to create employment opportunities for over 5,000 individuals, encompassing roles such as drivers, operators, mechanics, and welder
The Eastern Regional Minister urged local assemblies to utilize the provided machinery efficiently, emphasizing that the success of the program depends on collective commitment, proper planning, diligent maintenance, and accountability. He also encouraged engagement with communities to understand their needs and prioritize road projects that will have the most significant impact.
