Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama recently addressed congregants at the Ebenezer Miracle Worship Centre during his Ashanti regional tour. In his speech, he expressed gratitude for their support and subtly mocked Reverend Victor Kusi Boateng.
Reverend Kusi Boateng, Founder and General Overseer of Power Chapel Worldwide and VKB Ministries, had prophesied that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would win the 2024 general election in the first round. However, the outcome was vastly different, with Dr. Bawumia losing to President Mahama by over 1.6 million votes.
In his address, President Mahama referenced the numerous prophecies made before the election. He noted that some prophets, whose predictions failed to materialize, attempted to explain away their mistakes by claiming God had made their prophecies manifest oppositely.
President Mahama diplomatically expressed his disagreement with such explanations. He stated, "The God I know does exactly what He wants to do." This subtle jab at Reverend Kusi Boateng's explanation for his failed prophecy was met with interest from the congregation.
The President's visit to the Ebenezer Miracle Worship Centre was part of his Ashanti regional tour. Earlier, on Sunday, January 19, he visited the Manhyia Palace for the first Akwasidae celebration of 2025. During his speech, he acknowledged the challenging economic conditions facing the nation and sought the support of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in addressing these pressing issues.
President Mahama's comments on prophecy and the recent election have generated interest among Ghanaians. The discussion surrounding prophecy and its interpretation continues, with many weighing in on the role of prophets in Ghanaian society.
As the nation moves forward, addressing the economic challenges and other pressing issues will require a collective effort. President Mahama's call for support from traditional leaders like Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II underscores the importance of collaboration in navigating these challenges.
The debate surrounding prophecy and its interpretation is likely to continue, with opinions divided on the matter. However, as Ghanaians look to the future, the focus on addressing the nation's challenges and promoting unity will remain essential.
