The Cyber Security Authority of Ghana has formed a Special Cybersecurity Taskforce in Bawku to investigate and take action against individuals using social media to incite violence in the region.
The public is urged to submit any audio recordings, photos, social media profiles, or other digital evidence of people promoting unrest or violence in Bawku and nearby areas. These materials will be promptly reviewed for further action.
Reports can be sent via WhatsApp to: 050 160 3111.
In addition, the task force will meet with ambassadors and high commissioners from countries where some of the social media instigators may be located, to facilitate the identification and potential extradition of these individuals to Ghana. Those involved will face charges under anti-terrorism laws and international conventions on genocide, which are serious offences under international law.
President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Cyber Security Authority to collaborate with National Security to combat the use of social media in inciting and escalating violent conflicts in Bawku (Upper East Region) and Walewale (North East Region).
Meanwhile: Two youth groups in the Krobo area, Kloma Gbi and Kloma Hengme have petitioned the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) to intervene in a water crisis that has affected several communities for the past six months.
The water shortage, caused by construction work on the Somanya-Odumase-Kpong road, has left residents in areas such as Sawer, Atua South, Kodjonya, and Odumase South struggling to access clean water. Students in local senior high schools are also severely impacted.
The situation is escalating tensions, with residents threatening to protest against the water distributor if the issue is not resolved swiftly. Bismarck Tetteh, a resident, expressed frustration to Starr News, stating that utility companies have been neglecting the needs of people in the Krobo area.
In a joint petition dated January 14, 2025, the youth groups urged PURC to hold Ghana Water Limited (GWL) accountable under the PURC Act, 1997 (Act 538). They are calling for an investigation into the delay in repairing damaged pipelines and for immediate action to restore the water supply. Continue to read....
