Prempeh College Crowned Overall Champion at National Robotics Championship

Accra, Ghana – January 22, 2025

In an electrifying contest of creativity, engineering, and teamwork, Prempeh College has emerged as the undisputed champion of the 2025 National Robotics Championship held in Accra. The event brought together the best young minds from senior high schools across the country, showcasing Ghana’s growing reputation as a hub for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) innovation.

Prempeh’s Unstoppable Performance

Prempeh College secured its place at the top of the leaderboard with an outstanding performance by two of its teams, Ana Green and Team Owen, who claimed the first and second positions, respectively. The students demonstrated exceptional skill in programming, engineering design, and problem-solving, making them clear winners in the senior category.

Ana Green’s robot impressed judges with its ability to solve complex tasks autonomously, while Team Owen wowed the audience with its innovative design and precision during the final challenge. This dual victory reflects the school’s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

A History of Excellence

This victory is not Prempeh College’s first foray into robotics glory. In 2024, the school made headlines globally when it clinched the Unknown Mission Challenge at the World Robotics Olympiad in Izmir, Türkiye. Their consistent success has made them a symbol of Ghanaian ingenuity on both local and international platforms.

Competition Highlights

The 2025 National Robotics Championship saw participation from prestigious schools such as Koforidua Senior High School, Our Lady of Grace Senior High School, Mikrobot Academy, and Vine Christian High School. Each team brought their best projects to the table, competing in categories like autonomous navigation, mechanical design, and artificial intelligence application.

The event, popularly known as Robofest, is part of Ghana’s larger push to integrate robotics and STEM education into school curricula. The goal is to prepare students for future careers in technology, engineering, and innovation.

Ghana’s STEM Future

The National Robotics Championship is organized annually by the Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation (GRAF), with support from various tech companies and educational organizations. It aims to inspire students to explore STEM fields while fostering teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ghana’s Minister of Education, congratulated the participants, emphasizing the importance of robotics in shaping the future of education and technology in Ghana. He praised Prempeh College for setting a benchmark for excellence and encouraged other schools to follow suit.
