The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has called on his fellow lawmakers to draw inspiration from the exemplary relationship and conduct of the Jinapor brothers.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, during the confirmation of John Jinapor as Minister for Energy, Afenyo-Markin underscored the importance of collaboration and mutual respect among politicians. Recognizing that energy policy was not his area of expertise, he deferred to minority members with relevant knowledge to contribute meaningfully to the approval process of Jinapor.

Afenyo-Markin praised John Jinapor as an approachable and congenial individual and also commended his brother, Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Damongo, for his dedicated service as the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources. “Ghanaians should take note; the politics we engage in should not divide families,” he remarked.

The Minority Leader took the opportunity to urge members, especially those on the majority side, to refrain from divisive behaviour during elections. “Those who misbehave at polling stations should learn from the Jinapor brothers,” he said, referencing instances where political rivalries had led to inappropriate conduct.

In closing, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the Jinapor brothers serve as a powerful reminder to all politicians that, despite being on opposite sides, they share a common goal in serving the nation. He urged his colleagues to prioritize unity and cooperation over partisan discord.
