Lawyers representing Ghanaian influencer and socialite Mona Faiz Montrage have formally requested that her passport be returned by the US government.
In a letter addressed to Judge J. Paul Oetken, the legal team asked for the return of Ms. Montrage’s passport to allow her to begin self-deportation proceedings to Ghana.
“We represent Ms. Mona Montrage in this matter and write with the government’s consent to respectfully request the release of her passport, which was surrendered to Pretrial Services at the time of her arrest,” the letter stated.
The request aligns with a prior ruling stating that her passport should be returned to her once her sentence is complete.
Upon finishing her sentence, Ms. Montrage will be escorted by US Marshals from the Bureau of Prisons facility to the airport, where she will fly directly to Ghana without any domestic layovers.
Ms. Montrage voluntarily surrendered on July 29, 2024, and is currently serving a sentence of one year and one day at FDC Philadelphia. She was indicted on six counts related to her involvement in romance scams and laundering the proceeds from those schemes.
