Timileyin Ajayi, the alleged killer of Salome Adaidu, has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge brought against him by the Police.

Ajayi was charged with culpable homicide, an offence punishable by death. During his arraignment on Monday before Justice Simeon Aboki at Court 2 in Lafia, the suspect denied the charges of killing Salome Adaidu.

Stanley Nwaforagu, the Officer-in-Charge of Legal Affairs for the Nasarawa State Police, spoke to the press after the court session. He emphasized that despite Ajayi’s plea of not guilty, the Police would continue to pursue the case until justice is served.

Nwaforagu stated, “On January 27, 2025, the defendant, Mr Timileyin Ajayi, was arraigned before this honourable court on a charge of culpable homicide, punishable by death. His plea was taken, and he pleaded not guilty. A date has been set for trial, with the case adjourned to March 17-20 for hearing."

He added, “The court is committed to a swift trial, which is a positive development. We have strong evidence to support the charge, and we are confident that justice will prevail.”

The defendant's lawyer, Joseph Tukur, stated that the hearing was simply for the arraignment, and the next step would be the trial. He reiterated that while defending an alleged murder case is common, it is important to ensure that the prosecution fulfils its duty by proving the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
