Woodhall Capital, a financial services firm, has emphasized that providing funding is key to unlocking the creative potential of African talent.
In a recent fireside chat at the second edition of Lagos Canvas—a platform celebrating and connecting music, film, fashion, and art—held at the residence of the Deputy British High Commissioner in Ikoyi, Lagos, Moji Hunponu-Wusu, president and founder of Woodhall Capital, shared her thoughts.
She explained, “A creative bank becomes essential because, too often, creatives are only validated when they achieve success internationally. This is because funding determines the direction of their work. With our firm, African creatives now have access to African funding.”
The event, organized by EbonyLife Media, was attended by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos Commissioner for Tourism and Culture Toke Benson-Awoyinka, and various key figures from Nigeria’s creative industry.
In her welcome address, Mo Abudu, CEO of EbonyLife Media, emphasized that the event’s goal was to support the next generation of talent in music, film, fashion, and art.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also spoke, highlighting that Lagos is more than just a city of concrete and traffic. “Lagos is where innovation isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the heartbeat of our entrepreneurial spirit. Tonight, we celebrate the visionaries, artists, and innovators who have painted the vibrant canvas of this city, shaping its narrative and inspiring the world,” he said.
