Who Said We Need You? If You Joke With Me, You'll Lose 13 More Elections-Captain Smart Fires Back
Captain Smart Responds to NPP’s Boycott of Media General Platforms
Renowned journalist Captain Smart has responded strongly to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to withdraw from all Media General platforms, including TV3, 3 FM, and Onua FM. The boycott, announced in a press release on January 26, was attributed to alleged bias and unprofessionalism by the network's hosts and management.
Speaking during a broadcast on Onua TV, Captain Smart dismissed the NPP’s decision as inconsequential to Media General. “Who says we need you? You’ll come back here on your own,” he declared. Addressing the party leadership, he added, “Don’t bother Kennedy Kankam or anyone else about this; it doesn’t matter to anyone. They should tell Afenyo Markin and his group to boycott the vetting committee too because we’ll record him live when he shows up.”
Captain Smart didn’t hold back in criticizing the NPP, describing their move as shortsighted. “Is Afenyo Markin’s child, who is a member of the NPP, not affected by this? The party has collapsed. This is not just childish; it’s outright senseless. Let’s not waste our time discussing this on TV.”
He also reminded viewers of past experiences, asserting that the network thrived without the NPP’s presence during earlier campaigns. “When we were campaigning for Mahama, they didn’t come here, and we didn’t need them. If this party, which is already in shambles, underestimates us, they’ll lose thirteen more elections.”
Captain Smart ended his remarks on a defiant note, expressing gratitude for the boycott. “We thank God you’ve boycotted us. God bless you for it. We don’t need you, so go ahead with your boycott.”
The NPP’s boycott stems from months of alleged dissatisfaction with Media General’s coverage, as outlined by the party’s communications director, Richard Ahiagbah. The decision has sparked widespread reactions, with Captain Smart’s response adding fuel to the ongoing tension between the political party and the media network. Watch the full video below
