Kenyan international Michael Olunga's strike partner at the Japan J1 League side Reysol, John Mary Boniface, has opened up on his collapsed transfer to Saudi Arabian giants Al Nassr.
In an exclusive interview with Japanese media outlet, Sponichi Annex, Boniface revealed that he was on the verge of joining Al Nassr in the winter transfer window, but the deal fell through due to unforeseen circumstances.
"I was very close to joining Al Nassr, but unfortunately, the deal didn't go through. I was really looking forward to playing for the club, but it wasn't meant to be," Boniface said.
The 28-year-old striker, who has been in impressive form for Reysol, scoring 13 goals in 23 appearances, revealed that he was attracted to Al Nassr's project and was eager to play alongside some of the world's top players.
"Al Nassr is a big club with a rich history, and I was excited about the prospect of playing for them. They have some top-class players, and I was looking forward to learning from them and growing as a player," Boniface added.

Boniface also expressed his disappointment at the deal falling through, stating that he had already begun making plans for his move to Saudi Arabia. He had even started learning Arabic and researching the culture.
"I had already started making arrangements for my move to Al Nassr, including finding a place to stay and learning more about the culture. So, when the deal fell through, it was a big disappointment for me," Boniface said.
Despite the setback, Boniface remains committed to his current club and is determined to help Reysol achieve their goals this season. He has vowed to continue working hard and scoring goals for Reysol.
Boniface's collapsed transfer to Al Nassr has been a subject of speculation, with some reports suggesting that the deal fell through due to issues with his work permit. However, the striker has refused to comment on the specifics of the deal, choosing instead to focus on his current season with Reysol.
