Ghana’s Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has strongly denied allegations that he made inappropriate remarks about Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, during a parliamentary session. In a statement posted on his social media page, Jinapor urged the general public to disregard the claims, describing them as “absolutely false.”
The controversy emerged after reports suggested that he made derogatory comments while Dr. Zanetor Rawlings was addressing the House. However, Jinapor insists that such accusations are baseless and do not reflect his character or values.
“I have the utmost respect for Former President Jerry John Rawlings, his family, and Dr. Zanetor Rawlings in particular,” he stated. He further emphasized that the late President Rawlings played a significant role in his early political career, taking a keen interest in his development as a young politician. According to Jinapor, he has always held the Rawlings family in high esteem and would never speak ill of them.
The Minister highlighted his long-standing commitment to respectful and intellectual discourse in Parliament, stressing that he does not believe in personal attacks or character assassination. “I have always believed in decent debates and intellectual discourse in Ghanaian public life and Parliament especially, devoid of insults and character assassination!” he reiterated.
Jinapor’s statement comes amid a political climate where verbal exchanges and accusations are common in Ghana’s Parliament. As a prominent government official and MP for the Damongo Constituency, he has been involved in several debates on national issues, but he insists that his approach has always been respectful.
Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, the daughter of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, is known for her passionate contributions to parliamentary discussions. She has been vocal on issues related to governance, development, and human rights, often drawing from her father’s legacy. Given her political stature, any perceived attack on her naturally attracts public interest.
Jinapor’s denial aims to set the record straight and reassure Ghanaians of his commitment to professionalism in politics. His statement underscores the need for responsible political discourse, emphasizing that disagreements should be handled with decorum rather than personal attacks.
As the story unfolds, many will be watching for any further developments or responses from Dr. Zanetor Rawlings or other parliamentary members. In the meantime, Jinapor has made it clear that he remains committed to respectful engagement in Ghanaian politics.
