THE WHISPERING CABIN

The town of Raven Hollow had many ghost stories, but none were as famous as the tale of the Whispering Cabin. It stood at the edge of the dark Blackwood Forest, abandoned for years. Yet, people claimed to see strange lights flickering through its broken windows at night. Some said they heard voices calling from inside. Others swore they saw shadows moving.

Most people brushed it off as just another scary story. But for Theo, Ava, Lucas, and Mira, it was a mystery waiting to be solved.

The Dare

It all started on a cold October night, a week before Halloween. The four friends sat around a campfire in Theo’s backyard, telling spooky stories. As the flames crackled, Lucas leaned forward with a sly grin.

“Why don’t we check out the Whispering Cabin?” he suggested. “Everyone talks about it, but no one actually goes in. We could be the first.”

Ava shivered. “What if the stories are true?”

“Come on, Ava,” Theo said. “It’s probably just an old house. We’ll prove there’s nothing to be afraid of.”

Mira smirked. “And think about the bragging rights.”

After some convincing, Ava agreed, and they made a plan: tomorrow night, they would go to the Whispering Cabin.

The Journey

The next night, they grabbed their flashlights and a camera and set off toward the forest. The moon hung low, casting long shadows along the dirt path.

As they walked, the air felt heavier, and the silence stretched between them. Raven Hollow’s outskirts were always creepy at night, but the moment they stepped onto the forest trail, an eerie feeling washed over them.

“Does anyone else feel like we’re being watched?” Ava whispered.

Lucas chuckled, but it sounded forced. “It’s just the wind.”

The trees seemed to close in the deeper they walked. Finally, after what felt like forever, the cabin appeared.

The Cabin

It was smaller than expected, barely holding together. The wood was rotting, and the roof sagged like it was too tired to stand. The single window was shattered, broken glass glinting in the moonlight. The door, however, was open.

Theo was the first to step onto the creaking porch. He turned to the others. “Still think it’s just a story?”

Mira pushed past him. “Let’s find out.”

They stepped inside. The air was thick with dust, swirling in their flashlight beams. Broken chairs and tables lay scattered, and torn newspapers crumpled in the corners.

Suddenly, Ava gasped. “Guys… look at this.”

In the center of the room, carved deep into the wooden floor, were the words:

LEAVE WHILE YOU CAN.

A chill ran through them. Lucas swallowed hard. “Okay, that’s creepy, but maybe someone did it as a joke.”

A noise came from the back of the cabin. A whisper.

Mira gripped her flashlight. “Did… did you hear that?”

Theo nodded, stepping toward the dark hallway. The whispering grew louder, fast and jumbled, like many voices talking at once.

Then, the door at the end of the hall slammed shut.

The Haunting

The cabin exploded into chaos. Ava screamed. Lucas rushed to the door, but it wouldn’t budge. The whispers turned into frantic voices, overlapping and urgent.

Then, their flashlights flickered and went out.

The darkness swallowed them. A deep, raspy breath filled the air, slow and heavy.

Theo fumbled with his camera, trying to turn on its light. In the brief glow, they saw it.

A figure stood in the hallway, tall and thin, its eyes empty and dark. Its mouth stretched wide, filled with jagged teeth. The whispers turned into a sharp, shrieking wail.

Panic took over. Mira grabbed Ava’s arm. “We have to get out!”

With one final shove, Lucas forced the door open, and they stumbled into the night. They didn’t stop running until they were far from the forest, breathless and shaking.

The Aftermath

The next day, they promised never to speak of what happened. But Theo had recorded something before they escaped.

When they played the footage, most of it was static. Then, for a brief moment, the screen cleared.

There it was—the figure, standing at the cabin doorway, watching them leave.

And just before the screen went black, the whisper returned, clear this time:
