A graduate of the London School of Economics, Seni co-founded The NATIVE in 2016, a platform dedicated to celebrating African youth culture. His impact in the creative industry extends far beyond journalism and content curation. In 2023, he played a pivotal role in the Nigerian segment of the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack, collaborating with top artists like Rema, Fireboy DML, Tems, and Burna Boy.
This year, Seni’s creative brilliance contributed to the production of Bob Marley: One Love—Music Inspired by the Film, an album honouring the legendary reggae artist. The album won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album, marking a major milestone in Seni’s career and further boosting Nigeria’s presence on the global music stage.
The Grammy-Winning Soundtrack
The One Love soundtrack is a 17-track album offering fresh takes on Bob Marley’s iconic songs. It triumphed over strong contenders, including Collie Buddz’s Take It Easy, Vybz Kartel’s Party With Me, Shenseea’s Never Gets Late Here, and The Wailers’ Evolution.
Bukola Saraki, Nigeria’s Senate President from 2015 to 2019, took to social media to express his pride in Seni’s achievement.
Seni Saraki’s Reaction to the Win
In an interview at the Grammys, Seni shared his excitement about contributing to such a monumental project. Reflecting on his role, he said, “It’s crazy. I was brought into the project to help bring some of the artists together, and they’re all just incredible. This is the second time I’ve worked on a soundtrack like this. It’s been amazing working with this team—they’re the best in the business.”
The One Love soundtrack, released in February 2024 through Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong and Island Records, features powerful renditions of Marley’s classics by artists like Daniel Caesar, Kacey Musgraves, Wizkid, Leon Bridges, Shenseea, Farruko, Jessie Reyez, Mystic Marley, Bloody Civilian, and Skip Marley. Seni expressed his gratitude to all the talented artists, producers, and engineers involved, acknowledging the significance of reinterpreting Bob Marley’s timeless legacy.
“Thank you to all the amazing artists, producers, and engineers brave enough to take on this project. Bob Marley is a legacy—an iconic artist. For them to reinterpret his songs and make them their own—Bloody Civilian, Wizkid, Jessie Reyez, Daniel Caesar—they’re all incredible artists,” he added.
Nigeria’s Growing Influence at the Grammys
Seni Saraki’s success was not the only highlight for Nigeria at the 2025 Grammys. Nigerian artist Tems also claimed the Best African Music Performance award for Love Me JeJe, a reimagining of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 hit. She triumphed over notable Nigerian artists, including Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Asake, and Wizkid, as well as a collaboration between Chris Brown, Davido, and Lojay.
The achievements of both Seni Saraki and Tems underscore Nigeria’s growing dominance in the global music scene, further solidifying the country’s rich musical talent and diversity.
