Two people were killed when their vehicle detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Boko Haram militants. The incident took place as the victims were travelling from Harang and Jibhuhwui villages in Hawul Local Government Area, Borno State, to the Garkida community in Adamawa State.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, also left other passengers with serious injuries. They were en route to the Garkida market at the time of the explosion. The injured have been evacuated and are receiving treatment at a hospital in Biu Town.

In recent days, remote areas near Sambisa Forest have witnessed a surge in Boko Haram activity, with reports of food and livestock looting without resistance. Community leaders have acknowledged the attack and commended Alhaji Mohammed Shawulu Yohanna, the North East Chairman and Commander of Hunters/Vigilantes in Hawul, and his team for their efforts in confronting the terrorists and handing them over to the military.

The leaders are calling for stronger action from security agencies to address the increasing attacks in areas like Chibok, Askira-Uba, Damboa, and Hawul within Borno South Senatorial District.

One community leader, who asked to remain anonymous for security reasons, detailed that the attack on villagers from Harang and Jibhuhwui occurred when their vehicle unknowingly ran over an IED placed along the rural road overnight. This explosion claimed two lives, while the surviving victims are undergoing treatment in Biu Town.

Attempts to reach Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, for further information were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

Meanwhile: President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that “no soldiers from the US would be necessary” in his proposal for Gaza, a few days after suggesting that the United States could “take over” and “own” the Gaza Strip.

“No soldiers from the US would be needed! Stability for the region would reign!!!” Trump wrote in an early morning post on his Truth Social platform. Continue here.
