At such a young age, Nancy has already captured the world’s attention with her incredible talent for hair braiding—a skill her parents believe is a natural gift.
When a news crew visited her, Nancy was hard at work, braiding hair with remarkable focus and skill. Her ability to twist and weave the strands so expertly has left the people of Tabere, a small community along the Kumasi-Sunyani road, utterly amazed.
Her journey began one afternoon after returning from school.
Her mother, Amina Yakubu, recalls that Nancy had been insistent about wanting to braid hair alongside them. “A month and a half ago, when she returned from school, she kept asking me to let her join us in braiding. At first, I didn’t think much of it, but when she woke up from her nap and insisted on helping, I was amazed by how well she braided,” Amina said.
After school, little Nancy spends her free time doing what she loves most—braiding.
Amina adds, “I was so happy to see my daughter’s talent. She could even take over my work one day.”
Nancy’s talent has made her a local sensation in Tabere, but she’s also gained attention online, where she has over 2 million viewers and 320,000 followers.
Recognizing her potential, Ebenezer Akobilla, a relative and her current social media manager, decided to showcase her skills to the world by creating accounts for her on various platforms.
“I want to help her develop, even when her mother isn’t around, so she can continue honing her skills. I always encourage her to keep going,” Ebenezer said.
In the last few months, Nancy has attracted numerous customers to her mother’s beauty salon, eager to experience the delicate touch of her tiny hands.
“Some people come here just to let her braid their hair. They’ll even wait for her to finish school before she starts,” Amina explained.
Nancy is a lively, curious child, always eager to explore her surroundings.
Obaa Tina, a resident, recalls being astounded when she saw Nancy braiding hair for the first time. “She told me once that she wanted to braid my hair, but I didn’t believe her until I saw her do it with her mother. I was amazed by how seriously she took it,” she said.
Amina added, “From the moment she was born, Nancy would gaze around with such focus. Even the nurses were surprised by her intensity.”
Though she hasn’t officially attempted to break any world records, Nancy could very well be considered Ghana’s youngest hair braider.
