Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, founder of LoveWorld, also known as Christ Embassy, has explained why some gospel artists left his church. According to Oyakhilome, these musicians became more focused on fame and financial gain than on their spiritual calling. He expressed concern that worship in the church was becoming more worldly, with music losing its true purpose as a form of devotion.
He pointed out that while these artists often led praise and worship, they frequently skipped prayer sessions, which he saw as a sign of their lack of genuine commitment to serving God.
“The church was turned into a party place, not a prayer place where God’s word was truly celebrated,” Oyakhilome said in a viral video. “They weren’t soul winners; they led praise in church, but when it was time for prayers, they were gone.”
He further noted that many of the musicians began charging fees for their performances, prioritizing personal success over spiritual duty. While he had initially celebrated their contributions, he later tried to guide them back on track but faced resistance.
“I told them the Lord wanted us to do the right thing… they had become too popular, and because they were earning even a small amount of money… do they know what big money is? The little money they were making was too tempting, so they didn’t want to follow me, and they went off course,” he said.
The 61-year-old pastor expressed hope that the artists would repent.
