President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to introduce a comprehensive code of conduct for all government officials to promote accountability, discipline, and responsible governance.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed ministers at the Jubilee House on Friday, February 7, 2025, Mahama emphasized that his administration will not tolerate extravagance, arrogance, or misuse of public resources.
"This government will be guided by humility and service to the people of Ghana. Public officials must always remember that the resources they manage belong to the citizens who entrusted us with leadership."
As part of financial discipline, the President announced a ban on non-essential travel for government officials. He instructed the Chief of Staff to strictly enforce this policy, ensuring that all official trips receive prior approval from the Office of the President and are conducted in a cost-effective manner.
"We must set an example by reducing unnecessary expenditure. Every official journey must serve a clear national interest and reflect modesty."
Mahama reiterated his commitment to transparency and revealed that the upcoming Code of Conduct will establish clear ethical guidelines for government officials, eliminating misconduct and reinforcing accountability.
Additionally, he announced that he is expecting a report from the committee overseeing Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) on February 10. This initiative aims to retrieve misappropriated state resources.
The President concluded his address by urging his ministers to uphold integrity and focus on improving the lives of Ghanaians.
"We are here to serve, not to enrich ourselves. Every decision we make must prioritize the well-being of the Ghanaian people."
With these measures, Mahama is setting the tone for a government rooted in transparency, accountability, and responsible leadership.
