As a result, the council has taken a firm stance, imposing a ban that prohibits the lawmaker, who represents the National Democratic Congress (NDC), from stepping foot on any land within the Aowin Traditional Area.
In a dramatic display of their discontent, the chiefs, dressed in black and red, performed a ritual by pouring libation and sacrificing a white sheep. They declared that Ofori Larbi’s alleged actions had not only disrespected the paramount chief but had also dishonored the traditional authority and the stool.
During the invocation, led by the Chief of Omanpe, Nana Opong Payin III, the council called upon their gods to take decisive action if the MP defied the ban.
“If he steps foot on this land, let him be dealt with drastically by the gods and idols of this land. We the chiefs are pouring this libation to disassociate ourselves from him and so we don’t want him to associate with any chief of Aowin.”
The council further urged President John Dramani Mahama to assign all development projects in the town to the Western North Regional Minister or the soon-to-be-appointed Aowin Municipal Chief Executive, excluding Ofori Larbi from any government affairs in the region.
In addition to his alleged disrespect, the council accused Ofori Larbi of engaging in illegal mining within the Tano Anwia Forest Reserve. According to the chiefs, the MP allegedly formed a squad involved in illegal mining activities, reportedly backed by his authority.
"When Nana heard about the issue, we called Larbi, but he didn't show up. Instead, KED, his special assistant, came to the palace and told us that the individuals engaging in illegal activities in the forest were operating with Larbi's authority and power.”
Despite numerous attempts to engage with him, the chiefs claimed the MP had continuously ignored their summons. The council even reached out to the National Democratic Congress' regional executives and the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference for intervention.
The council has since called on the Inspector General of Police to launch an investigation into Larbi’s alleged activities. They emphasized the urgent need for a collective effort from the government, security agencies, and the Forestry Commission to prevent further destruction of the Aowin Forest Reserve.
Meanwhile, Oscar Ofori Larbi has strongly refuted the allegations, dismissing them as baseless accusations.
