Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly reached an agreement with Al Nassr to extend his contract for an additional year, keeping him at the Saudi club until June 2026.
An official from Al Nassr confirmed the development, stating that both parties have settled on a renewal deal. However, "it has not been signed yet. An announcement will be made over the coming days."
Ronaldo, who recently celebrated his 40th birthday, was initially contracted to stay at the club until June 2025. Since his arrival in January 2023, he has been a dominant force, scoring an impressive 82 goals in 90 appearances.
In a statement last August, the Portuguese star hinted that he might conclude his career at Al Nassr, saying that retirement could come "soon or in two or three years."
"But it'll most likely happen with Al Nassr, in the team that makes me happy... and where I feel good."
Ronaldo’s move to the Saudi Pro League initially raised eyebrows, with some seeing it as a lucrative final chapter to his career. However, his presence has significantly boosted the league’s profile, attracting other high-profile players to Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia’s successful bid for the 2034 FIFA World Cup in December has further cemented the country’s growing influence in global football. Ronaldo's association with the league has played a part in elevating its status.
Beyond football, Ronaldo’s popularity remains unmatched. When he launched his YouTube channel last August, he gained one million subscribers in just 90 minutes and 20 million within 24 hours. His channel now boasts over 73.5 million subscribers.
While he has yet to lift a Saudi Pro League or continental trophy with Al Nassr, Ronaldo continues to chase milestones. As he nears the remarkable 1,000-goal mark in official matches, he remains determined to add more silverware to his legendary career.
